How to Install Owl Exhaust for Sprinter

How to install the Owl exhaust for your Sprinter, Revel, or Storyteller van. 

 

  • Tools
    • WD40 or penetrating oil
    • 13mm socket and wrench
    • 10mm socket
    • 9/16" socket/wrench
    • 7/32" allen
    • Note: the Owl Exhaust Hanger will NOT be flat, it purposefully has twist
  • Revel Differences
    • Requires Grey Water Tank Removal
  • Prepare Exhaust
    • Use penetrating oil on the exhaust clamp bolt located mid-way on the vehicle
    • Loosen the exhaust clamp bolt
    • Slide the clamp towards the front of the vehicle
  • Remove Exhaust
    • Locate the exhaust hanger at the rear of the vehicle
    • Pull the exhaust towards the rear of the vehicle so it slides out of the exaust hanger and out of the mid-way coupling
    • WD40 or penetrating oil on the exhaust hanger can help slide it out
    • Pull the exhaust towards the rear of the vehicle and over the rear axle
  • Install new Exhaust Components
    • Note: use included anti-sieze on all components
    • Insert blue bushing into top of the Owl Exhaust Hanger. Bushing should be centered
    • Slide exhaust hanger onto new exhaust. Hanger tab should face rear of vehicle. 
    • Slide exhaust over rear axle
    • Bolt, then washer, through bushing, through chassis hole, next washer, then nut
    • Slide new exhaust onto existing van coupler
    • Tighten exhaust hanger using 9/16" wrench and 7/32" allen
    • Put clamp on exhaust tip with bolt facing to the rear, attach to exhaust
    • Align exhaust up or down by rotating the pipe. It should fit closely to the pinch weld and you should be able to see the logo on the tip
    • Use 13mm to tighten the exhaust tip clamp
    • Tighten vehicle exhaust clamp at mid-way
  • Realign Cable Bracket
    • Clip/cut zip ties on axle bracket
    • Remove bracket with 10mm socket
    • Slide old bracket out of the way
    • Attach new Owl bracket to cables
    • Re-use same 10mm nut and tighten bracket
    • Zip tie cables and old bracket to secure
